Scope and ContentYearbook: The Ho-Hi. Volume One, Nineteen Twenty-three. Published by the February Class of Nineteen Twenty-three of Hoboken High School. 8vo cloth. pp. 1-168; advertisements I-XXXVI [1-36.] Lacking spine. PDF on file. Entries for the graduating students includes their home addresses and several were not Hoboken residents. Along with agroup photo of the June class there are group photos of the six other classes: the February and June classes of the Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen ('Freshies'.) The members of those classes are published, but are not in the name index of this record. Pages 4-8 have a photo of Joseph F. Brandt and a memoriam. He died on April 30, 1922 after less than a year as the Superintendent of Schools. Also a photo of his successor, Daniel S. Kealey (whose name was mis-spelled as Kealy), who was the High School principal in 1921-1922. His successor as principal, William J. Wyse, is also pictured. List of Board of Education members. The faculty is listed with their degrees and with their home addresses. The graduation program for the preceding class, June Class of 1922, and the names of the graduates are printed (names are in name index.) On pages 136-137 in the literary section is a story that is fictitious although it is not labeled as such, entitled "A Survivor's Story of a Submarine's Raid" by a H[enry] Heigis who was the vice-president of the graduating class. It appears in the style of a true-life account. He discusses being drafted and embarking to France aboard the U.S.S. Aztec from Hoboken in Feb. 1918. In the story it was sunk by a German submarine and he was rescued by another vessel in the convoy. It mentions the Leviathan and how it manueuvered in the convoy. The actual ship did not serve in trans-Atlantic convoy duty and did not sink. It was returned to civilian service in 1919. Heigis was probably born on April 3, 1906 which means he would have been 12 years old in 1918.
