Recalling Championship Days
Some surviving members of Hoboken High School’s famed basketball teams of the early 1920’s gathered in the Mile Square City last week as guests of Councilman Walter Cramer—who keeps in constant touch with Dave Walsh who coached the men above and the team that won the state championship in 1924. Walsh has been living in Florida since his retirement. In center photo Cramer is handling an ABA basketball with the redoubtable Pinky Gottlieb as John Hildemann, and smiling Matty Quilter look on. Flanking the center photo are Eddie Matera and AI Vezzetti who were members of the championship 1924 team.
