Notes: Archives 2014.065.0105 ==== Scores Attend Requiem Mass Of ‘Singing Cop' Scores yesterday attended the funeral Mass at Our Lady of Grace Church in Hoboken for Hudson County Patrolman Arthur J. Hildemann, known as the “Singing Cop’’ who died Friday in St. Mary Hospital, a victim of cancer. Following the funeral from Earl F. Bosworth Funeral Home in Hoboken, the late police officer’s funeral cortege was escorted to burial grounds in Washington Memorial Cemetery, Paramus, by a county police car manned by his former brother officers. During his late years on the county force, Mr. Hildemann was a robust figure, serving as a protector of public safety with a vigor that made him known to both adults and youngsters. He took great pride in being invited to serve as master-of-ceremonies at various social functions. In late years, he was assigned duty at McKinley School in North Bergen. Patrolman Hildemann was a resident at 733 Park av., Hoboken, where he lived with his wife, the former Ruth Scheer. His survivors include a son, Alan of Little Ferry; a sister, Mrs. Rita Field of Hoboken, and a brother, Jack Hildemann, superintendent of the Hoboken sewage treatment plant. Two grandchildren also survive. During his 40 years on the county police force, Patrolman Hildemann made himself known to the man on the street and to political leaders at both county and state levels. “He was just a likeable guy, the kind of police officer most everybody felt free to talk to,” said Hoboken Mayor Louis DePascale. Acting Hoboken Police Chief Walter Fallon said, “The passing of my friend Artie Hildemann marks another turn in the elimination of the old-time cop. Officer Hildemann was a credit to the police profession.” ==== ==== Status: OK Status By: dw Status Date: 2014-10-16
