Advertising banner sign: Charlie Chaplin in The Gold Rush with Vaudeville [image of Chaplin]. (Hoboken), no date, circa 1925. Painted artwork on oilcloth or similar cloth backed fabric, 48" x 17 feet wide. Three cut-outs; metal grommets.
Found in storage at United Decorating Company at 423 Washington St., Hoboken. Whether created by early owners of the company has not been established. Creator not indicated or known as the artwork is unsigned. Date established by the release date of this silent motion picture. Which theater this had been displayed at has not been established.
Condition of fabric is fair: fragile and ripe; right end is very soiled and tattered with some losses not affecting painted lettering or image.
Pigment appears to be a poster paint; appears stable without flaking.
