Certificate of Marriage; as used at Hoboken City Hall, no date, circa 1910-1920s. Unused; one in album or presentation folder.
While city is not stated on this generic form, it was recovered from materials discarded by City offices. It is believed that these were used for weddings performed by a Justice of the Peace or the District Court. Such ceremonies were held at City Hall either in City Clerk office or the City Council chambers which also served as a courtroom. There is also the possibility that they were used by the Mayor for the occasions when he performed a ceremony.
Certificate 1, not in album folder, 5-7/8" high x 7-1/8" wide.
Certificate 2 in album, same size; damaged corner. Folder is a white leather grained cloth imprinted Certificate of Marriage in gold on front cover and blind corner decorations. Inside is an acetate pocket at right with the certificate; left side is silk lined with a diagonal silk ribbon with bow for holding memorabilia.
