Lithographed metal can with lid, 5" diameter x 3-1/2" high; key type opening can; open and key not present. Can lid has embossed: N1353. One of the over 50 brands made, packaged and distributed by General Foods at its four coffee plants which were primarily for Maxwell House Coffee which was the name found on the factories. At the left side near back is their listing: The Special High Test Vacuum Process Brings Oven-Fresh Coffee to Your Table. Packed by General Foods Corporation, Hoboken, N.J., Houston, Tex., Jacksonville, Fla, Los Angeles, Calif. A code number is below: 2234. At the back to the left side of the seam is another code: A.C.CO. 19 A. X. [A.C.CO. = American Can Co.]

Notes: This brand was established before General Foods built the Hoboken Maxwell House Coffee plant that opened in late 1939. With the Hoboken name on it, the earliest date would be 1939 and from the style of the graphics, probably not later that about 1950. It is not known if this can itself was packed in Hoboken or if this brand every was made in Hoboken (may have only been for regional distribution outside of the Northeast and produced at one of the other plants; possibly for export market.) Considering World War II and metal restrictions for packaging, its date of production may have been more restricted.
