Cancelled mortgage between James Miller and Mary M. Miller and the Hoboken Land Improvement Company, May 1, 1861, for property on Bloomfield Street near Seventh Street, Hoboken. [4]pp. 16" high x 9-7/8" wide.
The date of the original indenture was in 1861 for the purchase of a lot at what is now 716 Bloomfield Street, Hoboken for $2700. As arranged the amount was in a bond due in 1870 at 7 percent annual interest for a total due at that time of $5400. The mortgage was paid in full on Oct. 23, 1865 and has the cancellation of the City Clerk, Oct. 25, 1865. The seals have been removed.
The document is an indenture form printed for the Hoboken Land Improvement Company for the 1850's. The year '5_' in '185_' is crossed out and written in as "sixty one." Below, where "Township of North Bergen" is printed, it is lined out and "City of Hoboken" is written above it. A few lines further down before the description of the property, it states "(being part of a tract of land known by the name of Hoboken)". This means that this form was printed prior to 1855 when Hoboken was incorporated as a city.
