Object/Artifact
Lipton Chicken Noodle Soup. A Prepared Soup Mix. 3 Packages. Thomas J. Lipton, Inc., Mfr.[manufacturer], Hoboken, N.J. No date, circa 1955-1958. Original carton and contents. Box: one piece cardboard printed in yellow, blue and red; folded to 5" high x 4-1/8" wide x 1-15/8" deep; back opening at right. With: three white foil envelopes printed in blue both sides with the soup mix; unopened.
From depictions in dated advertisments of the box and envelopes, the date range is suggested as 1955-1958. The soup itself was first sold by Lipton in 1941. The envelopes carry text, "By the makers of Lipton Tea and Lipton Frostee Dessert Mixes," which makes it the 1950s as Frostee was introduction in 1951.
The box back has a promotional offer, "5 Bestseller Books, All 5 for only 50 cents." "A 1.25 retail value." These were Pocket Book editions and they sold for 25 cents retail until about 1957 or 1958. Order coupon had to be clipped from box.
Curiously the packaging does not promote the other flavors in this soup line.
