Object/Artifact
Dairy bottle: C.F. Wachendorf. C.F.W. Hoboken, N.J. One Quart Liquid. No date, probably 1917.
Clear molded glass, ribbed and embossed, 3-1/4" diameter x 9" high.
Made by Thatcher Manufacturing Company.
Marker's mark on base in one line at center: T MFG CO
Above it, 17, which is considered as the year of production.
Back has a W roundel on the neck (which also appears in the same position on the front) and at the bottom, 11, which may be a plant code.
Nothing has been found about C.F. Wachendorf; the bottle is a typical milk bottle used by grocers for retail distribution, but fancier than most with its ribbed design. A Herman Wachendorf was a grocer in at least 1911 at 509 Grand St., Hoboken.
