Embroidered red wool felt: ribbon 2" wide x 6-7/8" high plus cast metal clasp bar, overall 7-1/2" high. Five colors of embroidery thread were used. Association of Exempt Volunteer Firemen of the City of Hoboken (based at 213 Bloomfield St.) insignia is the dominant element on the badge. (The organization was a fraternal one; the fire department ceased to be a volunteer organization in 1891.) Cast gold-finish metal badge has no maker's markings. Apparently created for use at an out-of-state convention meeting or outing.
