Reputedly the phrase "I'm the guy..." originated in 1910 with Rube Goldberg, probably the most famous cartoonist of his day. It became a catchphrase that was used in many situations including commercial and business advertising. The tribute button here is a variant of the phrase ("Hobo" versus "Hoboes") on 1910-1911 era buttons - see: 2010.007.0486 and 2014.013.0147 - which were originally issued to promote cigarettes. The Museum also produced a female version in red with the phrase "I'm the Gal Who Put Hobo in Hoboken."
