Cocomalt can: Cocomalt. 1/2 lb. Copyright 1956 R.B. Davis Company, Hoboken, N.J.
Lithographed metal, 3-3/4" high x 2-7/8" diameter; lithographed metal pry-off lid. Base stamp: K 56. Original contents not present.
The layout, design and artwork have some similar elements to that found on objects 2010.007.0231, which is a twelve ounce can proof carrying the Penick & Ford name (see below.)
Cocomalt was a chocolate malted drink originally made by R.B. Davis Co. in Hoboken; in the 1950s, Penick & Ford bought the company and continued to produce the product. Penick & Ford was New York based, so they used that city name on labels at some point. They were bought by R.J. Reynolds in 1965 and by 1966-1966 were no longer involved as manufacturers of retail grocery products. When production of Cocomalt ceased in Hoboken has not been determined.
