Born in Sulmone, Italy, on October 14, 1902, Mr. Balassone immigrated to the United States in 1909 as a young boy. A self-made man and an innovator in the hair care profession, Mr. Balassone established the forerunner of the uni-sex hair salon in Hoboken, New Jersey, having maintained his shop for men and woman on 11th and Washington Street for many years, Nick Balassone was predeceased by his beautiful wife of almost 70 years, Jennie (nee Radice) and never fully recovered from that loss. Mr. Balassone, at 106 years of age, was the oldest registered voter in Hudson County. He was a firm believer In maintaining physical fitness and health and would walk at least 5 miles a day to maintain the same, virtually to the end of his life. He is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and great-great-great-nieces and nephews. Nicholas was an extraordinary man who lived an extraordinary life and he will be missed by all.Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services on Monday, December 1, 2008 at 8:30 AM at the Leber Funeral Home, Kennedy Boulevard at 20th Street, Union City, NJ thence to St. Lawrence R.C. Church In Weehawken. NJ where at 9:30 AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Entombment Fairvew Mausoleum.
