Digital image of newsclipping with photo of drum corps, Alexander L. Saldarini Post, V.F.W., Union City, July,1935. Dated "Friday, July 26, 1935" from an unidentified newspaper; photographer not credited. See short text under photo for men identified in photo (not Hoboken residents) as well as list of other members of this Veteran of Foreign Wars drum corps.
Although the group was not from Hoboken, mentioned as a member is Tony [Anthony] Durstewitz who was the son of Hoboken Playgrounds Band director Julius Durstewitz. The man standing directly behind the bass drum resembles Julius Durstewitz, but he is not mentioned in the article.
Detail of image found on recto of leaf 16 of Julius & Marie Durstewitz album, see primary record 2005.078.0100 for a description of the album and provenance. Note the verso of leaf sixteen is blank and leaf seventeen that followed was blank on both sides. See related.
The article does mention the Hudson-Bergen Soap Box Derby which they were to perform at the next day. Also mentioned is that they had marched in Hoboken Tercentennial Parade (1930).
