Digital image of newsclipping with photo of Marie Durstewitz instructing sewing students at recreation center, Hoboken, no date, ca. mid-1920's. Newspaper was the Jersey Observer with photograph by staff photographer. Clipping was ca. 3-1/4" wide x 3" high. Photographer is not known.
Julius Durstewitz is not in this image. The short article below the photo identifies Marie plus names the four girls but does not state if they are in any order (i.e. left to right.) The girls are Mariano Millie (sic - possibly Millie Mariano?), Mariano Mange (sic - possibly Mange Mariano?), Helen Mahoney and Marie Merletti.
The photo depicts Durstewitz showing the girls the proper way to make an apron as part of a sewing contest at the Recreation Center at Second and Jefferson Streets. Durstewitz was one of three instructors. Also mentioned is Commissioner Harry L. Schmulling, Director of Parks and Public Buildings.
