Digital image of photo of the Hoboken Playgrounds Field Band assembled on street near the Recreation Center,113 Jefferson St., Hoboken,1938. Original image was ca. 4-1/2" wide x 2-3/4" high. Plus the black-and-white nitrate 70 mm negative of the same size as the print thus the print is possibly a contact print. Photographer not indicated (print made by the People's Studio.) Reverse has ink stamped processor's number: 51; also pencil notation "1938", "Good." People are not individually identified.
Among the viewers at the left, Julius Durstewitz appears to be the man in suit standing after the fourth child from the left. The view is looking south. The band is in military style uniforms. The recreation center is the building at the left; the sign is only partially visible. This event was apparently celebrating the opening of the center, cf. photo catalogue 2005.078.0535.
In the distant background is a building with signage: Cudahy Packing Co. which was in Jersey City.
