Black-and-white copy photo of photo of 1938 Decoration (Memorial) Day Parade near the Fabian Theatre, on Newark St., east of Washington Street, Hoboken, May 31, 1938. 4" x 5" wide print.
The view is looking southwest. Per George Kirchgessner, the event was sponsored by the Hoboken Recreation Department with a May Day theme with girls marching with maypoles and related items; probably marching units from the Hoboken Playgrounds under the direction of Julius Durstewitz.
The film on the Fabian Theatre marquee, "In Old Chicago", was released in 1938. The side marquee notes "coming Ross-Armstrong fight film." The welter-weight boxing championship won by Henry Armstrong over Barney Ross in 15 rounds was held on this date.
