DescriptionCabinet photo of Louis Matthews taken by William Manewal of Hoboken, no date, ca. 1890-1900. 4-1/4" wide x 6-1/2" high, photographer's mount. Reverse has only photographer's imprint. Donor in searlier notes identified the man as Joseph Matthews, her great-great grandfather, and stated: early policeman, French Canadian; wife was Catherine. A more recent note corrected the ID to "Louis Matthews, father to David and Bill Matthews who ran Matthews Liquors at 1100 Washington St. for years. Bill was also a city councilman and one of the co-founders of the Hoboken Ambulance Corps." Manewal was at 520 Washington St. and notes on the reverse "Formerly with C. Magnus."
