Grey-scale illustration of World War Rock Monument by Kevin McCloskey, circa 1986
Drawing
This illustration can be found on page 4 of 'Walking Around Hoboken.' McCloskey sketches this World War I American Expeditionary Forces Memorial Boulder, located on 1st Street on Pier A.
Erected in 1925, this monument commemorates Hoboken's role as a Port of Embarkation during World War I, honoring the 3 million troops who passed through Hoboken's port.
Originally located on Pier 4 just off River Street, the boulder was relocated to First Street and Pier A in 2002, after completion of the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway.
