Cup & saucer, demitasse: Holland America Line, n.d. ca. 1940s-1950s.
Object/Artifact
China demitasse cup and saucer from unknown Holland-America Line vessel. No date, ca. 1940's-50's.
Note Holland-America's home port for its ocean liners or other passenger ships in the U.S. was in Hoboken from the 1870s to 1961.
Marks on the bottom of both pieces indicate this was made for the Holland-America because of the use of the corporate initials, "N.A.S.M." (Netherlands-American Steamship Company or NASM: Nederlandsch-Amerikaansche Stoomvaart Maatschappi.) Bottom of cup has pattern number 1362 and the mark of the maker, Heinrich & Co, Bavaria, Germany plus a separate mark "23". The saucer has pattern number 1363E and the added mark "47". The decoration of both pieces is simple: maroon rule edging plus single or double blossom vignettes.
