Graphite drawing of Hoboken shoreline near Fifth to Sixth Streets dated January 28, 1845. Unsigned, artist unknown. Black pencil on cream wove paper (no watermark); 6-5/8" high x 10-5/8" wide. Evidence of sewing holes at left indicating this leaf was once in a sketchbook or album.
Date plus five lines of descriptive commentary in French at lower left corner. Approximate transcription:
28 Janvier 1845
Hoboken pres New York au soleil couchant derriere moi, la ville brillant et bizarree, rochers j'aunatres arbres violatres riviere bleu Manhattan.

The view is northeast of what became known as River Walk in the nineteenth century with Castle Point on the cliff at the left. The location appears to be circa Fifth or Sixth Streets. If it was further north, it would have depicted Sybil's Cave.
