DescriptionRemnant of a display cabinet cornice in the architectural style of a Bavarian chalet from a German restaurant/luncheonette formerly at the ground floor of 123 Washington St., Hoboken, n.d. (ca. 1930's or earlier.) This location has been an H. & R. Block Tax Preparation Service for over 20 years. Painted wood & glass. 9'-5"w x 34"h x 14"d. Found by Mathew Muzio and recovered by R. Foster when the shop was undergoing renovation and this item was on a wall above a drop ceiling. It appears that may been atop a wall cabinet or a bar/service counter 'back.' The bottom is not closed and appears rough, unfinished as if it was meant to join with some other architectural element. Made of wood with a dark stain and black painted detailing. The top is a sloped roof meeting 5 'caged' support posts. Between the posts are balustraded porch railings (1 section missing.) In the wall setback from the railings are 4 small centered windows (2 over 2) that open; 2 still have light yellow stained glass. Each window has a pair of green vaned shutters. Minor damage with losses noted above.
