Three black-and-white digital prints of Hoboken Police Department training of officers and auxilary officers in riot control techniques, Hoboken, ca. 1970-1971. Circa 8" x 10" wide prints. Made 2006 from originals, photocopy facsimiles, loaned by Hoboken Police Department. Photographer is not indicated; probably taken by local newspaper. Reverse of originals were blank.
Location is the Hoboken High School athletic fields. The officers and civilians are not identified. Event is related to a state of emergency that was declared because of riots in June of 1970 and September of 1971. Which year this image is from has not been established.
Photo 1: men lined up shoulder to shoulder along edge of running track with nightsticks (batons) held horizontally in front. Two copies.
Photo 2: police officer demonstrating a hold with the use of a nightstick on a subject; other men are informally looking on in the background.
Email on 28 April 2017 from Kevin O'Brien regarding Photo 2 states, "Included in that picture are Ptlm Angelo Radetich, Lt Tony Rinaldi, Ptlm Frank Palmisano, Sgt. Anthony (Rocky) Romano, Ptlm Kevin O'Brien, Sgt Thomas Crimmins, Ptlm Ernest Mack, Sgt August Schwarz, Ptlm Golizio, Ptlm Vince Lombardi, Ptlm Frank Turso, Ptlm Thomas Kennedy. Given the presentation is Lt Martn Wladich with an unidentified officer."
