The images have been numbered photo 1 to 6 although they were not marked as such. The sequence shows the progessive stages of the work.
The demolition of the main American Lead Pencil Company manufacturing complex on Fifth Street between Clinton Street and Willow Avenue is in the background. Also two tall buildings of the same company are in the foreground in the the block bounded by Fifth, Sixth, Grand and Clinton Streets. Several adjacent smaller residential buildings are also being demolished.
The American Lead Pencil main site became the location of Church Towers building 3. The foreground site became Church Towers building 2 and the block to the south of that block (a corner of which is seen also under demolition) became the site of Church Towers building 1.
See photo catalog 2008.057.0002 for two other digital images of demolition that was also being done at the same time on the northern end of the block to the west of the views in this record. They cover Sixth Street between Clinton and Grand Streets. A small part of the American Lead Pencil Company main site is seen at the right in one of them.
