Photograph
Black-and-white photo of elevated streetcar station at Newark St., Observer Highway and Henderson Street, Hoboken, April 24, 1949. 3-1/2" high x 5" wide print. Photographer not indicated. Reverse has typewritten print or negative file number and caption information as below.
Typewritten on back: X49-194. Trolley station at Henderson St. on Public Service elevated line. 4/24/49.
The view of the Public Service of New Jersey streetcar trestle is east and apparently taken from in front of the firehouse. The diagonal street in the foreground is Newark Street. Street at the left is Observer Highway which leads to the Lackawanna Terminal whose clock tower is seen in the distance. Henderson Street would be the cross street to the right.
The trolleys or streetcars that used this line on the south end of Hoboken ran to and from a terminal at Hudson Place next to the Lackawanna Terminal. They also had connections to street level routes in Hoboken.
Second building from the right has sign: H. Heilbrunn Co., Wholesale Meats. Part of the painted Neumann Leathers sign is seen on the building in distance about passenger platform on inbound (south) side.
