Baker's Coconut Animal Cut-Up Cakes. Published General Foods Corporation, White Plains, N.Y. Copyright 1959. Booklet printed in full color, 4-3/4" x 6-1/4" high, unpaginated [36 pp.] PDF on file.
Note the product was produced the Franklin Baker Divison of General Foods and was or had been located in Hoboken, but this publication does not mention Franklin Baker and is credited to General Foods. Publication promoted the sale and use of Baker's Coconut and was the second in a series on these cake styles, the first was in 1956 (see archives 2010.007.0178 for this edition which was published by the Franklin Baker Division, Hoboken.) The title here has completely diffferent content than the 1956 edition. With varying titles, formats and major revisions, editions of Cut-Up Cakes were published for over three decades, well after the Franklin Baker Division left Hoboken.
It is not a true recipe book. A how-to decoration guide ("Directions for making these clever cakes from General Foods Kitchens") for a cakes with animal themes. Packaging in a can and box are shown on page [3] and back cover for Angel Flake Coconut, "New Tender-thin Flakes."
The cakes were intended to be constructed by cutting up layer cakes to make whimsically themed and shaped desserts for presentation. Besides a photo of the finished cake, there are how-to photos. Even though titled as "Animal" there are the "Cut-Up Kids (Jack and JIll)."
The booklet was not a free publication although no price is stated. Packaged products and advertising carried instructions to send 15 cents ("coin, check or money order") to Cut-Up Cakes ... Kankakee, Illinois. (This place for fulfillment would indicate that the booklet itself was not produced in Hoboken; likely created by the General Foods Kitchens.)
