The Leviathan, formerly the S.S. Vaterland of the Hamburg-America Line until 1917, was the largest troop ship used in World War I. It is known to have made its last trans-Atlantic crossing as a troop transport in September 1919. Decommissioned on Oct. 29, 1919 and turned over to the U.S. Shipping Board.
