This low altitude aerial view is looking west-northwest. Note snow on the ground; dry dock is dry. This photo is related to photos in records 2011.025.0360 and .0362. All are from the former files of the Bethlehem Steel Company Hoboken Yard which is stated in the press release with photo 2011.025.0360 as responsible for the conversion work. Beth Steel had shipyards in Hoboken and Staten Island as well as using the Bayonne Military Ocean Terminal. Hoboken was the central admininstration of their New York harbor operations as stated by the General Superintendent Joseph Cangelosi, 1979-1981, who was based in Hoboken, but was in charge of the three remaining NY area operations. INTREPID was transfered to the INTREPID museum foundation on April 27, 1981. (Decommissioned to reserve 15 March 1974; was last CVS in service. Ownership transferred to Sea*Air*Space Museum 27 April 1981, stricken upon transfer of custody to museum 23 Feb 1982. Preserved at Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in New York City.)

The USS INTREPID arrived February 25 at the Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne, N.J., to be converted into a floating museum. Bethlehem Steel Corporation's shipyard at Hoboken, N.J., which operates extensive ship repair facilities at the MOT, is doing the conversion work.
