Intrepid in graving dock at Military Ocean Terminal (MOT), Bayonne, to be converted to museum; work to be done by Bethlehem Steel Shipyard, Hoboken, probably 1981. 8" x 10" prints; 2 copies each. Photographer not indicated; reverse of all are blank. Documentation photos; possibly used for publicity or public relations; see below. Image quality suggests that the black-and-white prints were made from photographic negatives or slides that were originally in color. Without any markings, the sequence of the images is unknown, but they are listed here with some consideration to a likely sequence. In general most are views of the process of using the graving dock which was required for exterior hull work. While the former aircraft carrier arrived in February, all people seen in the photos are seen in warm weather clothing - short sleeves, shorts and one man shirtless. All are from the former files of the Bethlehem Steel Company Hoboken Yard which is stated in the press release with photo 2011.025.0360 as responsible for the conversion work. Beth Steel had shipyards in Hoboken and Staten Island as well as using the Bayonne Military Ocean Terminal. Hoboken was the central administration of their New York harbor operations as stated by the General Superintendent Joseph Cangelosi, 1979-1981, who was based in Hoboken, but was in charge of the three remaining NY area operations.
