Photograph
Black-and-white photos, three, of a window display of student work for Hoboken YMCA class at the Geismar Shop, 222-224 Washington St., Hoboken, no date, September 1941. 2-3/4" x 4-1/2" prints. Photographer not indicated. Reverses are blank. The man is not identified.
Geismar's was a retail men's clothier with a distintive Art Moderne entry. The prints are from the former files of the Hoboken YMCA and are believed to represent a wartime activity related to the Y. The display has a welder's mask, torches, rods, tank, photos, metal pipes and other examples of the craft in one section of a north side window in the entranceway. Note hats at the right in photo 1.
A Jersey Observer newspaper clipping dated September 23, 1941 described this window exhibit and other education programs at the Y.
