4" x 6" mount. Photograph taken by Lay, 252 Washington St. (old number; modern 628), Hoboken. Mount imprinted on front in bottom margin: Lay Hoboken. Reverse has larger photographer's imprint with address plus penciled identification at top: Fred. Weisenbach.
First name could be also be Frederich or Freidrich. The boy is standing on a chair holding the violin and bow. While dressed in a skirt, this would be considered a typical garment at that time for a boy of his apparent age.
Proprietor of studio was Herman Norton Lay.
The old street number became 628 Washington St. in 1892.
