Ponce, partly sunken, which while being repaired developed a list, sending water thru the portholes and the ship almost to the bottom. It will take about two weeks to float the vessel. JCS-10-17-28. A [end caption] View is west of a pier near 13th Street. The building lettered "W. & A. Fletcher Co." was the Plate Shop with the Machine Shop in the background (which was expanded during World War II towards 12th St.) In 1928 United took over operations of this shipyard and it continued calling it the "Fletcher Plant" The Ponce was a ship of Porto Rico Line of the New York & Porto Rico Steamship Co., 1899-1956, but did not carry passengers after 1924 (see notes.) The vessel is not the ocean liner of the same name that participated in the 1899 Marconi America's Cup demonstration. There are several other vessels that carried this name.
