Carte-de-visite of 2 girls posed in photo studio, Hoboken, n.d., ca. 1870s-1880s.
Photograph
Carte-de-visite of two girls posed in a photo studio, Hoboken, no date, circa 1870s-1880s.
2-7/16" x 3-15/16" high; double rule gilt frame on front. Photograph taken by Nagel & Fritz, 192 Washington St. (old number, modern 508), Hoboken (reverse only has studio imprinting.) Girls are not identified.
Back has the studio imprint: Photographed by Nagel & Fritz, No. 192 Washington St., Bet. 5th and 6th Sts., Hoboken, N.J.
This studio name is uncommon and obviously represents a partnership of Louis Nagel (who had a studio under his name for most of the late 19th century in Hoboken) and the person named Fritz. The old street number 192 is the modern 508 Washington St.
The girls who strongly resemble each other are likely sisters, the younger one being seated. They are dressed in the same style of clothing suggesting they were photographed for an occasion or event.
