B+W night photos, 2, of Ford automobile parked on street near corner, Hoboken, n.d., probably 1930.
Photograph
Black-and-white photos, two, of a Ford automobile parked on street near a corner, Hoboken, no date, probably 1930 (license plate date.)
8" x 10" wide prints. Photographer not indicated, possibly R. Magnus. Reverse of all are blank.
Views are described from viewpoint in front of vehicle:
Photo 1: view of auto front and left side
In left background is a building with partial name at top: "offman & Co." which suggests this that was Charles Hoffman & Co., Undertakers and Embalmers, 109-111-113-115 Jackson St. Note the window at street level with fancy curtains, the door with an awning and two lit sconces which reinforce the perception that this is the funeral home. BUT the car is parked near a corner (fire hydrant at left) and the building just described would have been in the middle of a block, so this location would not correspond to the street grid. If Jackson Street is the background, then this car is on Second Street.
Photo 2: view of front and right side
A sign for a delicatessen and groceries is in the background; some people are seen as bystanders which is uncommon for this group of documentation photos.
This photo is from an accession group that consists of photographs from Hoboken Police Department records. Discarded in the 1990s, the original documentary purpose of this photo is not stated or apparent.
1930 NJ license plate: H45272
Street is paved with cobblestone.
