The event was a retirement party for Veth who had been the Yard Superintendent at the Hoboken Shipyard. Standing behind the head table near the right wall is Veth, fourth from the right, with a boutonniere. It is presumed that his wife, unnamed and wearing a corsage, is next to him. Donor Patrick Lombardi attended along with his wife Judy; see detail image. Lombardi was employed at the shipyard from 1957-1968 as a crane operator. According to Lombardi, Charlie Kosbab was also present at the dinner.
