While the lower marginal note has "Macalester Victory Am. Ex." the "E" on funnel, if present, can not be seen. The funnel is not painted in the typical American Export style and the ship has not been found listed in the usual rosters of their known vessels. It is possible that they did not own it, but were operating it under the supervision of the U.S. Shipping Board.
