View is west from a ferry on the Hudson River of the three NGL piers in Hoboken. Known then as Pier 1, right, and Pier 2 are seen in full with a partial view of Pier 3 (although later called piers 3,4 or 5.) Hamburg American Line piers 1 and 2 were to the south of NGL Pier 3. NGL piers ran from Second to Fourth Streets. All piers were replaced by the Port Authority in the 1950s and were demolished in the 1990s. Pier C Park is presently where Piers 1 and 2 were located. Importantly the three ocean liners seen berthed at the docks were not in use; they had been interned by the U.S. Government in January 1915 due to World War I. The crews were living on board and their movements were restricted. The names on these passenger ships cannot be read. See notes. Note a number of tugboats and barges around the piers.
