Scope and ContentNewspaper article: HOBOCAN HACKINGH Col. John Stevens Purchased the Hoboken Property in 1784. For Ninety Thousand Dollars. Baron Steuben, the Great Soldier, Made an Effort to Secure the Property When it had Been Confiscated - He was Piqued When His Request was not Granted. (Extracts from Winfield's History of Hoboken.) Published Tuesday, January 14, 1896 in a local newspaper (name not known, but display ads on reverse are Hoboken businesses.) A long (but not full height) single column (scanned image is in overlapping sections.) The clipping was part of series of at least 14 extracts taken from Winfield's history and credited in the title as "Extracts from Winfield's History of Hoboken." This one is probably the third. They were all published in published in January and dated by the collectors, Matthias H. and May Georgia Taylor of 525 Garden St., in pencil or ink. This source text was: Hopoghan Hackingh.
