Notes: Per Hoboken Fire Department website: 1937: A blaze destroys the entire block east of Hudson Street between Eleventh and Twelfth streets, including the R. G. Matthews Corporation. Reference image attached of two June 18, 1937 newspaper articles which give greater detail than the photo caption; Dodge & Bliss named in caption, but is correctly stated in one article as Dodge Leslie (Terminal); fire also affected another business, National Box Company. The direction of the view cannot be determined. The site was once the location of warehouses of the U.S. Army Transport Service owned by the War Department and used in conjunction with the Port of Embarkation. Another lumber company known to have been on this site was the Lawson & Macmurray Company. The entire site later became the General Foods Corp. Maxwell House Coffee plant.
