Joseph (born in Australia ca. 1872 – 1938) got into the business at age 18 around 1890. He is probably best known for bringing Australian animals to America, including some of the most difficult of all to maintain, notably the koala and duck billed platypus. In 1923 Ellis Joseph made New York his headquarters and in 1927 he moved to the Bronx where, for a time, he maintained a menagerie at Conner Street and Haller Avenue. He was unmarried and retired from business in 1933.” ==== 2014 URL: http://www.elephant.se/elephant_transfers.php?year=1924 Elephants transfered 1924 16 transfers of elephants during 1924 in the database Name Species Sex Birth Age Location Arrival From + -Tonki (Tonky)- EM - F 1920 23 years died 1943-09-23, 19 years after arrival, at Ueno Zoo 1924-10-00 + -Jon (John)- EM - M 1918 25 years died 1943-08-29, 19 years after arrival, at Ueno Zoo 1924-10-00 + -Mo Gay Ko- EM - F died 1937-08-11, 13 years after arrival, at London Zoo 1924-09-18 unknown + -Queenie- EM - F died 1935-05-04, 11 years after arrival, at Nay Aug Park Zoo 1924-06-16 + -Birma- EM - F 0 died 1944-01-08, 20 years after arrival, at Dresden Zoo 1924-05-31 + -Mary- LA - F 1920-11 4 years died 1924-05-22, 0 years after arrival, at Philadelphia Zoo 1924-05-07 Carl Hagenbecks Tierpark (Stellingen) + -Jacky- EM - M 1899 38 years died 1937-04-22, 13 years after arrival, at Leipzig Zoo 1924-01-28 Circus Barum (Circus Kreiser) + -Delhi- EM - F 1920 47 years died 1967-10-00, 43 years after arrival, at Circus Krone 1924-00-00 + -Nero (Babe)- EM - F died , -1924 years after arrival, at Unknown 1924-00-00 Christy Brothers Circus + -Dua- EM - F 1923 44 years died 1967-10-00, 43 years after arrival, at Circus Krone 1924-00-00 + -Barnum Nellie- EM - F 1914 27 years died 1941, 17 years after arrival, at Houston Zoo 1924-00-00 Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus + -Betsy III- EM - F died 1924, 0 years after arrival, at Hague Zoo (Haagse Dierentuin) 1924-00-00 + -Carl- LA - M 1921 14 years died 1935, 11 years after arrival, at Berlin Zoo 1924-00-00 Firma Ruhe (Tierhandelsfirma Ruhe) + -Molly- EM - F 1921 20 years died 1941, 17 years after arrival, at Karlsruhe Zoo 1924-00-00 + -Albert- EM - M died , -1924 years after arrival, at Ketrow Brothers Circus 1924-00-00 William P Hall Animal Farm + -Clyde- EM - F died , -1924 years after arrival, at Hans Mueller 1924-00-00 Walter L. Although interested in photography from his school days, Jones first worked as a pattern-maker. He freelanced as a photographer for several years while working in a Boston factory, but after losing two fingers to the machinery he joined the Herald-Traveler staff full-time. In his 39 years at the newspaper, Jones covered everything from a fox stuck in a tree on the Boston Common, to Lindbergh's U.S. tour after the aviator crossed the Atlantic. His photographs document both the usual and the unusual in the daily life of Boston. ==== Original or Copy: Original Status: OK Status By: dw Status Date: 2014-02-04
