ESTABLISHED 1853 Manufacturers of Wooden Tanks and Vats 15th & Jefferson Streets Hoboken, New Jersey. ==== page 4 J. SCHWARZWALDER & SONS, Inc. Introduction IN a catalogue of Wooden Tanks it is impossible to mention all the various styles we manufacture, as there is practically no industry in which wooden tanks in some form or other are not used. Our company has been manufacturing tanks for over sixty years, and we have always maintained the reputation of furnishing the highest quality of goods possible. We carry large stocks of oak, cypress, white cedar, and yellow pine, and are in a position to supply goods made of these materials on short notice. On all round and oval tanks—unless flat hoops are specified—we furnish hoops made of round iron or soft steel, with malleable iron draw lugs, as these are more durable than flat hoops, and on sprinkler and water supply tanks they are invariably recommended by the various Boards of Fire Underwriters. We desire to call attention to the fact that in the manufacture of our tanks all staves are dressed to conform to the true circle of the tank. This means that the hoops are in perfect contact with the staves. The bottoms are cut to fit exactly into the croze or groove in the staves, making it unnecessary to touch same up before assembling the tank. All hoops are plainly marked; and in shipping, exposed joints are protected with thin strips of wood, insuring the arrival of the tank at its destination in good condition. ===== page 5 J. SCHWARZWALDER & SONS, Inc. ROUND WOODEN TANKS. On Round Tanks all capacities are based on outside measures, the diameter being at the bottom of tank; and unless otherwise specified, all tanks are built with a slight taper (1/2 to 3/4" per foot). The Tanks listed on the following pages are sizes which cut without waste from standard sizes of lumber. However, we will be pleased to estimate on any other sizes, upon request. When writing for prices, give as much information as possible so as to give us an idea of your requirements. We would suggest the following: Capacity desired. Widest diameter, and height of staves. If possible, state purpose for which tank is to be used, for we can often make suggestions which result in a considerable saving to our customer. If covers are desired, mention whether flat or conical, or both. Also, if dunnage is required, give spacing of supporting timbers or tower. WRITE. All our Sprinkler tanks are constructed according to the specifications of the Factory Mutual Fire Insurance Co., or other regulations of the various Boards of Fire Underwriters and invariably call for heavier material and hoops than are usually furnished with house supply tanks. The complete tank equipment of a sprinkler in addition to the tank, calls for a flat and conical cover and inside wood ladder, also outside iron ladder. Covering the conical cover with galvanized sheet iron or Rubberoid is optional with purchaser. ==== page 13 RECTANGULAR TANKS When used for strong solutions of acids, etc., it is advisable to line the inside of tanks with copper, sheet lead or a composition of asphaltum and pitch, depending on the solution with which the tank is to be filled. Rectangular tanks are usually delivered completely assembled but when shipping any distance it is advisable to ship knock down on account of the saving in freight and the illustrations below show the manner in which the sections are taken apart for shipment.
