DescriptionBlack-and-white photographs, eight, of a Memorial Day or Fourth of July parade seen marching south on Washington Street north of Fifth Street, Hoboken, no date, circa 1941. 2-3/4" x 4-5/8" wide prints. Photographer not indicated, but presumably taken by a member of the Radigan (or Rattigan) family. Reverse of all have print processor's batch number 493; modern ballpoint ink: 5th & Washington; earlier pencil notation: 1941? All views are looking north from southeast corner of Fifth and Washington looking towards Sixth Street and north during this warm weather event. Line of march is south on Washington. Storefronts and signs on the west side of Washington in the 500 block are prominent including Umland's, People's Photo and L. & G. Laikin. Except for the music group in photo 1 known by its banner, none of the marching band units have been identified except for photo 7 which is considered to be Our Lady of Grace Marching Band (see description below.) Donor's father, James Radigan - a member of that band, is presumed to be present in his group. Photo 1: Klein Nederland Glee Club, Hoboken, N.J.; banner; men and women in traditional Dutch dress. Photo 2: ship float, Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation, S.S. Bethship (Bethlehem Steel had come to Hoboken in 1938 was the operator of Bethlehem Steel Hoboken Yard); beyond the float is a labor union group, C.I.O. Local 15 marching unit. Photo 3: marching band unit Photo 4: color guard leading a marching band unit Photo 5: marching band unit Photo 6: marching band unit Photo 7: marching band unit (probably Our Lady of Grace Marching Band based on comparison of their uniforms to ones seen in photos 2001.090.0014) Photo 8: majorette color guard and majorettes ---- Note overhead wires for trackless trolleys/streetcars. No street tracks present.
