Model train layout plan: Union Connecting Railroad. New York Society of Model Engineers, Inc., Lackawanna Terminal, Hoboken, N.J. Ferry Concourse. January 1949.
Single printed leaf, 11" high x 17" wide, printed one side only; folded as received. PDF on file.
This group of model railroaders had been using space in the upper level ferry concourse at the terminal since 1948 as a guest of the Lackawanna Railroad. The plan here was for the development of the Union Connecting Railroad (U.C.R.R. - not a real railroad) layout designed by them and under construction in Hoboken. The sheet has a table at the lower that includes a "Feb. 1949 Temp. Layout" along with "Ultimate Railroad Layout" and "Ultimate Trolley and Interurban."
For the period and into the mid-1950s, it was the largest model railroad layout in the world. Dimensions on the sheet indicate 90 feet long by 35 feet wide.
See related or archives 2012.007.0044 for an exhibition annual and some later history about it.
See archives 2015.001.0061 for a 1956 version of this layout plan.
