Formerly the Hamburg-America Line's "Vaterland," the vessel was laid up in 1931. In 1934, she was repainted and returned to transatlantic service for just 4 round-trip voyages before being laid up at the Hoboken piers in late 1934. When she left in 1938 to be scrapped, the stacks were lowered. Even though Craig dates this 1935, it had to be in 1934.
