Field worked for 37 years in the Hoboken Water Department as a clerk, chief clerk and bookkeeper. Accounts of his personal life include witness to three murders (including Overseer of the Poor Harry Barck), polio, rescue of four children from the Hudson River and that he had no identifiable fingerprints. He and Bailey also offer a retelling of Hoboken history as known and researched by them.
Note: Exposition Press was a "vanity press"; authors would pay them to publish their manuscript in book form.
