Erie Lackawanna Story, The
Book
The Erie Lackawanna Story. By Paul Carleton. A D. Carleton Railbooks Publication. [River Vale, N.J.: D. Carleton Rail Books, 1974.] First edition. 4to cloth. pp. 479, maps, photographs. Lacking dustjacket.
A book for railfans rather than an historical monograph. A cursory table of contents is organized by railroad - Delaware, Lackawanna & Western; Erie; Erie Lackawanna; no index. Material is organized into dozens of short, unlisted chapters by motive power, e.g. "K-5 USRA Pacific." Several hundred photos, well captioned with specifics of equipment, location and dates (from the 1930s-1970s and all in black-and-white) of steam locomotives, motorized units, diesel as well as cabooses, switchers, freight and passenger cars, trackage, yards, buildings, stations, coaling stations, water towers, signals, etc. The images cover the wide geographic area where the rail lines operated.
No particular section is devoted to Hoboken; some photos are labeled as scenes from Hoboken. See image of pages 50-51, "Streamline Pacifics", where two of the three photos of locomotives are in Hoboken with an "Art Moderne" treatment.
