Scope and ContentFile of eight documents related to John Francis Carney (1920-1977) of Hoboken and his World War Two military service in the U.S. Navy as a radioman plus a memorial certificate issued after his death. Carney lived in Hoboken prior to the war at 413 Washington Street and after the war at 260 Eleventh St. He was on active duty with the U.S. Navy from Jan. 1, 1942 to Nov. 7, 1945. The group is significant as being typical of what military veterans kept in their personal papers as important to their life experience and service. New York. Certificate: 5-1/4" x 8" wide; memo 8" x 10-1/2"; reverse has several written names. 3: Form: Notice of Separation from the U.S. Naval Service, Nov. 7, 1945. Two copies: original with typewritten entries, right index thumbprint, signatures; carbon ("To: Veterans Employee Representative") Typewritten address was crossed out and changed from 413 Washington St., Hoboken to 260 11th St., Hoboken. It recorded that his last employer before military service was Alco Gravure, 9th and Monroe Sts., Hoboken. Vessels served on: U.S.S. New York; U.S.S. Jeffers; U.S.S. Neunzer.
