Photographer not indicated. Reverse blank. This item was donated with other United Decorating Co. images that included documentation images of their work. The two lines of hanging letters read: Drum Bugle Corps Alan Nutt Post 126 --- Alan Nutt (see notes for more about Nutt) Post 126 of the American Legion was organized in 1919 in Cliffside Park, N.J. The image may be as early as the 1920s. A single person is in this view, an unidentified man with his hands folded on his lap is seated at center against the back wall.

AWARDS AND CITATIONS Distinguished Service Cross Awarded for actions during the World War I The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Air Service) Alan Nutt, United States Army Air Service, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 94th Aero Squadron, 1st Pursuit Group, U.S. Army Air Service, A.E.F., near Forges, France, 26 September 1918. While on a patrol Lieutenant Nutt encountered and attacked unhesitatingly eight Fokker planes. After a few minutes of severe fighting, during which he displayed indomitable courage and determination, this officer shot down one of the enemy planes. Totally surrounded, outnumbered, and without a thought of escape, he continued the attack until he was shot down in flames near Drillancourt.
