Leroy Doric lettering boxed set 61 3135 manufactured by Keuffel & Esser Co., ca. 1960-1970.

Doric lettering boxed set 61 3135 manufactured by Keuffel & Esser Co., circa 1960-1970. Stained solid wood (pine or spruce?) case, hinged, 17" long x 3-7/8" deep x 1-3/8" high; name and set number silkscreened on top. Case has routed slots for holding contents; printed paper label inside case top with copyright dates of 1959, 1960; also "Keuffel & Esser Co." silkscreened to right of label. Contents as described below. Box top has names scratched & painted-in on top: East Coast Katalina Unltd. (have not found any references regarding this company.)
The Doric line appears to derived the Leroy lettering line K&E had made for several decades and was still producing. Whether parts were interchangeable is not stated or been determined.
Contents as found is as listed on the printed label :
-K&E Doric adjustable scriber, no model number found on it other than name on adjustment knob at bottom, but listed as 61 3160 on label; painted light green metal with dark green plastic knob. This shape and style (without the painted finish) plus operation is the same as the traditional Leroy scriber; the Leroy line of the later 1960s used scriber that was quite different in appearance.
-Lettering template: K & E Doric 8925; light green plastic with three alphabets, 100, 140, 240. Overall: 15" long x 1" deep x 1/8" thick.
-Transparent plastic straightedge with same dimensions as the template. No K&E mark on this item.
-Lead holder [lead clutch], not marked, corresponds to 61 3205.
-Lettering pen marked 'E' with cleaning pin; cannot determine which pen this is of the two called for with this set: 61 3165 or 61 3170. Also present is a second cleaning pin, either 61 3175 or 61 3180. The cleaning pins are not listed in the set contents.
-Leroy Black Waterproof Lettering Ink for Leroy Pens, 58 0005 (called "Leroy Ink Cartridge" on case label.) Black plastic tube, 4" long including cap x 1/2" diameter; printed paper label. Label states "Made by Gunther Wagner Pelikan - Werke, Hannover, Germany.
Keuffel & Esser Co. was located in Hoboken during most of this period and the item is considered as probably having been manufactured here except as noted on the ink.
