On the Waterfront Talk with Lenny Luizzi

May 3 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The classic 1954 film On the Waterfront was not just set in Hoboken—it was deeply shaped by its people and places. Lenny Luizzi offers a unique perspective on its production, sharing stories about the real-life longshoremen, local extras, and the impact of filming on the city. This discussion will examine how On the Waterfront immortalized Hoboken’s industrial past and became one of the most influential films in American cinema.

Lenny Luizzi is a lifelong resident and city historian. He worked for 30+ years in the film industry. Lenny is involved in the cultural and social landscape of Hoboken. Lenny was a member of the Historic Preservation Commission for 20 years from 1992-2012 and served as Vice Chair from 2002-2012. He was also a member of the New Jersey Historic Sites Council from 1996-1999.

This event is co-sponsored by the Hoboken Public Library and Hoboken Historical Museum.
